résidencies

At the heart of our project, the creative residency of the Encounters of Young International Photography has been a driving force for us since 1994. Building on this experience, creative residencies on the surrounding region and, more recently, public contact residencies are regularly proposed for the benefit of artists and members of the public alike. They are organised over time according to jointly designed and produced projects. They are mostly subject to a call for projects enabling us to reach artists other than those from our own network.
We will be launching production residences as soon as our workspaces are fully set up on the upper floors of Villa Pérochon (Spring 2022).

Residency of the Encounters of Young International Photography

Far removed from the usual panoply of prizes and grants, the creative residency of the Encounters is a unique form of support for projects and emerging artists, based on the sharing of experience and knowledge, on exchange between and around the most diverse forms of photographic approaches, and on the meeting of cultures. The residency of the Encounters of Young International Photography takes place in Niort, one of the main towns in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. Niort is located at the gateway to the Marais Poitevin natural park of reclaimed marshland and is about 60 kilometres from the Atlantic coast between Nantes and Bordeaux.
Every year, the creative residency hosts eight emerging international photographers, with the most diverse approaches, selected on the basis of application including examples of existing work by a jury chaired by the artistic advisor who is to accompany them throughout the stay. They are provided with full technical support by the team at Villa Pérochon Centre for Contemporary Photographic Art. A technical centre, equipped with professional equipment, including a black and white film laboratory and a digital workshop, is reserved for their use throughout the residency. In this privileged context, the young artists are invited to create and experiment.
The residency amounts to a unique artistic experience, with true carte blanche being offered to the residents in an exceptional setting conducive to exchange, meetings and the sharing of experiences.

public contact residency

Whenever possible, Villa Pérochon promotes direct exchange between artists and a broad public. With this in mind, a new form of residency focused on public contact is proposed to artists who have created an exhibition that we present.
