Blue Diamond is the latest chapter in a science-fiction saga developed in Beijing and presented in various museums and art institutions in Europe and Asia. Blue Diamond‘s protagonist, Gao Yue, is a freediving diver and researcher who develops a deep bond with certain cetaceans in the ocean’s great depths. His research is told through a video and a fictional historical archive, both inspired by real discoveries in the history of marine biology. In Blue Diamond, the historical essence of the photographic document becomes a means of conceiving a credible science fiction that looks to the past rather than the future.

Biography
Rachele Maistrello (1986) is an Italian visual artist whose photography, video and use of corporate documents create dreamlike, expanded narratives exploring the intersections between body, landscape and science. Her work often explores human relationships with nature, time and place, starting from a research-based approach that evolves into fictional stories, blurring the boundaries between reality and imagination. Influenced by the new materialism, her practice uses perception and archival images as sites of visual and conceptual investigation. She explores the abandoned spaces of everyday life through a performative photographic practice that alters perception, blurring reality to evoke a dreamlike atmosphere.
She has taken part in group and solo exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including the MAXXI Museum, Rome (2022), the Benaki Museum, Athens (2022), Circulation(s), Paris (2022), Kunstverein Bielefeld, Germany (2020); Inside Out Museum, Beijing (2019), Photo España, Madrid (2018)… His works can be found in private European collections and international museum collections.
