“Julien Magre’s work is part of a biographical journey, and his photographs […] capture the tenderness of time as it passes over loved ones. The intimacy shown is never simple, since the photographer takes great care not to reveal every detail of his life, thus transfiguring everyday banality,” writes H\u00e9lo\u00efse Con\u00e9sa, curator at the BnF (Biblioth\u00e8que nationale de France) about Julien’s work.<\/p><\/div>\n\n\n\n

UNE VILLE INTIMEWriting & Photography: two inseparable elements<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Drawing on this rich experience, participants will be asked to produce a series of intimate photographs of the city of Niort. They will also be asked to produce a short text presenting the series.The aim of this workshop is to produce images, edit them, and find the right order and rhythm to create a coherent narrative. Technical issues will be kept to a minimum, leaving the analysis and choice of images to the fore. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saturday June 28th<\/strong>Morning<\/strong>Julien will look at each participant’s photographs or series and choose a series with them to produce on Saturday afternoon.Afternoon<\/strong>Participants will begin their project.Then first meetings with images in the early evening.Sunday, June 28<\/strong>Morning<\/strong>Julien will present his Ni\u00e9pce prize file and then look at each participant’s production.If necessary, each participant will go back into the field to make or finalize the series.Then editing at the end of the morning.16h<\/strong>Presentation of each person’s work to the group and debriefing.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Julien Magre<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Julien Magre<\/strong> was born in 1973. At Paris Photo 2010, Agn\u00e8s B. spotted his work when she signed Caroline, Histoire num\u00e9ro deux <\/em>(Filigranes). Speaking of this project, which he has now been carrying out for over twenty years, the photographer describes himself as a “spectator of his own intimacy”: choosing the right distance from his subject, neither too far nor too close, he documents his everyday life, and thereby renders it poetic.In 2014, he was part of the BAL group show, S’il y a lieu, je pars avec vous<\/em> with S. Calle, A. d’Agata, A. Bublex and S. Couturier. He published the book Je n’ai plus peur du noir<\/em> in 2016 (Filigranes). From then on, black and white appeared in his photographic practice. In March 2017, he joins Le R\u00e9verb\u00e8re gallery in Lyon. There, he presents Elles<\/em>, a corpus of 350 images taken between 1999 and 2017, based on his work on his family.In 2022, he wins the Prix Ni\u00e9pce and is part of the major photographic commission “Radioscopie de la France”. <\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
