Indeed, having worked as an advertising still-life photographer for over 10 years, Violaine Carr\u00e8re has never ceased to imagine a bridge between this photographic specia- lity and the art world. She has turned this complicated relationship into a strength, hijacking photographs of cosmetic textures and giving them a new lease of life by placing them in stained-glass windows. Once removed from its context, surrounded by lead and glass, the<br\/>still life, photographed in macro and further enlarged, becomes a kind of sculpture born under X, freeing itself from its commercial parentage. No longer mayonnaise, shaving cream or moisturizer, we see only majestic, sinuous forms. Her atypical universe is characterized by a plastic vocabulary that we might be too quick to judge as <em>factitious<\/em>. With her use of digital technology, strange materials and light management, she succeeds in creating the illusion of an unreal setting. In addition to her advertising commissions for clients in the luxury goods sector, she takes her creations beyond the studio to the gallery.
